The Traveling GR Flag
Patrick Morris is currently stationed in Iraq and one of
his favorite things to do is take the Golden Regiment Flag's
picture. Below are some shot of the Flag's travels.
Patrick's most recent emails had this to say:
Hello all,
I finally got around to taking some more pics with
the band flag. It’s been great telling the band’s story
taking the pics. I hope the band likes them. I’m sure
they’re wondering why I would carry around the flag and take
pics with it. Just as keeping pics of Evelyn and my boys in
my helmet reminds me of home and why we’re over here, the
flag represents a group of young men and women that I’m very
proud of and that demonstrate personal traits that I highly
respect. The dedication, self-discipline, teamwork, and
esprit de corps that our band demonstrates represents some
of the best of what the U.S.A. is. During this deployment
I’ve seen many young men and women, not much older than
those in our band, that have the same personal traits. Those
traits gave them all the strength to undertake tasks and
missions that only those of us that have been here will
truly appreciate, and they did it at great risk to
themselves. They persevered and were successful. That’s what
the Golden Regiment does, they persevere through the heat,
rain, homework, more heat, crazy parents, awesome (yet
demanding) directors, more heat and humidity, long bus
rides, cold rainy competitions, long practices, and so on;
and they are successful. They successfully pull together and
impress and entertain us all with their performance, talent,
teamwork, and esprit de corps.
If all goes well, I’ll be returning home just in
time for the beginning of marching season. I’m pumped and
ready to be a “crazy parent” in purple again.
Take Care!

To All,
I attached some new Band Flag pictures to this
email that I had taken during the trip. I get a lot of
questions from Marines that see me having these pics taken
and after I boast about our band and their dedication,
discipline, motivation, and accomplishments, they are always
very impressed and claim they will be checking out the
Golden Regiment web site. I sure hope the kids get a kick
out of seeing their flag traveling around Iraq.
Take Care,
Patrick
You take care, too, Patrick, and thank you for serving
our country. |
